OU Commends Louisiana for Doubling Tuition Tax Deduction
Enactment helps families shoulder burden of K-12 education

Yesterday, the Louisiana House overwhelmingly passed legislation that doubles the per child tax deduction available for K-12 tuition. SB 13 now heads to Governor Bobby Jindal for signature. Previously, families could deduct up to fifty percent of tuition costs up to $2,500 per year. Now, families will be able to deduct the full cost of tuition, up to $5,000 per year.

Howie Beigelman, OU Deputy Director of Public Policy stated:

Louisiana’s tuition tax deduction, already a national model, now becomes even better. This is a modest tax break that provides real help to real families and its enactment will help families who struggle to shoulder the burden of K-12 education.
