The newsmedia has been quick this afternoon to declare Kadima and Tzippi Livni the winners of the Israeli elections (to be sure, Kadima’s comeback is a win in itself). This has been based on exit polls and, dare we suggest, some preference in the media for the center-left.

But Israelis who vote for the “rightist” parties are notorious for lying to exit-pollsters. And now, as the actual returns come in, the contest is much, much closer.
