Today, the leadership of the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America (Orthodox Union)–the nation’s largest Orthodox Jewish umbrella organization–issued the following statement in advance of the formal release by Amnesty International-UK of an anti-Israel “report.”

“The Orthodox Union absolutely rejects the biased and one-sided report on Israel scheduled to be released tomorrow by Amnesty International-UK that presents an unbalanced, inaccurate, and incomplete review and seeks a sad but simple goal: to demonize and delegitimize the Jewish and democratic State of Israel. This is most obvious when the report seeks to delegitimize the existence of Israel by framing its accusations against Israel as commencing “since its establishment in 1948…

“At a time of surging antisemitism in the UK, Europe, the United States and around the globe, this libelous document resorts to baseless ‘apartheid’ accusations against Israel, among other distortions. With this report, Amnesty International-UK throws its lot with those who not only hate Israel, but the Jewish people.

“We call on all parties of good faith to condemn this ideologically driven polemic, and instead focus on efforts that will advance peace and security – rather than instigate more distrust and divisiveness.”
