OU Successfully Advocates for Security Funding

Prior to the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Homeland Security mark up and allocations process, the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations sent a letter, below, explaining the importance of the Nonprofit Security Grant Program.   A week later, full Senate Committee on Appropriations reported out next year’s homeland security appropriations bill – and it includes $13 million for Nonprofit Security Grant Program, which is $3 million more than was allocated in FY2012, and $8 million more than was originally requested in the President’s budget.  This success is due to OU Managing Director Rabbi Steven Burg and OU/IPA Executive Director for Public Policy Nathan Diament meeting with a number of Senate leaders, and working closely with partner Jewish organizations, including the Jewish Federations of North America.
